Favorable Signs
Good news for everyone who’s been anxiously awaiting a chance to visit Wakatobi. After 19 months of closure to international travelers, there are clear indications that Indonesia is on track to re-open the island of Bali to tourism. With the Bali gateway open, onward travel to Wakatobi once again becomes a clear possibility.
Though exact details of reopening have not yet been announced, the most recent word is that Bali will begin a phased reopening over the next few months. Covid-19 cases in Bali and other regions of Indonesia have fallen dramatically in recent months, while vaccination rates are on track to match those of neighboring countries such as Malaysia and Singapore, where rates are approaching 90 percent.
Back at Wakatobi, our team has received their vaccinations and are ready and waiting to give our cherished guests a warm welcome. We have been very busy over the past months, sprucing up things around the Resort and on the Pelagian liveaboard, expanding the jetty, upgrading the runway, and giving the dive boats a good going over and a few updates. The dive team and our security staff have been keeping tabs on the reefs, which are in excellent condition.
Reach out to us – We’d like to give everyone a firm date for reopening, but it’s still a bit early for that news as we’re waiting for definitive information from the government. It looks very likely that guests can return to Wakatobi in early 2022. And this also means it’s an appropriate time to book your holiday for next year and 2023, so please don’t hesitate to check in with our team and look into flights with your preferred airline carrier.
Get Ready – The moment we know more, we’ll follow up with details and dates. So, dust off your dive gear and make sure your passports are up to date because the wait for Wakatobi is just about over. In the meantime, enjoy this video of one of everyone’s favorite sites, Roma. As you’ll see, the reef is healthier and happier than ever, and you’ll soon be back to enjoy it!
We can’t wait to see you.
