EXPECTATIONS MET… AND EXCEEDED
From first-time visitors to resort regulars, our guests have had a lot of good things to say about their recent visits to Wakatobi. Their comments range from “feeling like VIPs” and enjoying “private jet-style” travel to celebrating a rewarding resort experience that “hasn’t changed a bit.” Many also remarked on the extraordinary health of Wakatobi’s reefs, which have thrived over the past two years, and now reward divers and snorkelers with a mix of familiar favorites, new finds, and even some new dive sites. Here’s what three recent arrivals are sharing about their Wakatobi experience.
A VIP Experience
“Our family came to Wakatobi with very high expectations,” says first-time guests Mark and Sue Winter. “Before the trip, we’d talked with repeat customers about Wakatobi, and that set the bar high,” Mark says. “From the moment we arrived in Bali, our expectations were met and exceeded.”
“We felt like total VIPs,” says Sue. “A Wakatobi representative escorted us through the airport, provided language support at immigration checkpoints, and we were whisked past a mob of taxi drivers to a comfortable van, where our delightful English-speaking Bali guide, Suka, waited behind the wheel.”
“It was truly a private-jet experience.”
“On the morning of our flight to Wakatobi, we were once again personally escorted through security, and within minutes we were on our way to a comfortable private lounge.
When the plane was ready, we walked straight out onto the tarmac and took off. It was truly a private-jet experience.”
“As promised, the dives, accommodations, and food were all superb,” Mark says, “and again the Wakatobi team exceeded our high expectations. We were wowed by the diving. Wakatobi’s reefs are truly stunning, but it was the people that ultimately made our Wakatobi experience so special.”

Reasons to Return
After a two-year pandemic-induced absence, guest Paul Moliken recently returned to Wakatobi for his seventh visit. “Why dive at the same place that many times?” he asks. “The resort provides innumerable answers to that question,” Paul says.
A favorite answer is the House Reef, which Paul describes as “truly astounding.” On his most recent visit, the House Reef and other sites “could not have been any better,” he says.
“The corals are in excellent health, and there were some personal firsts for me, including crinoid shrimp, clingfish, pygmy cuttlefish, and more, along with the expected regulars like bumphead parrotfish, rays, triggers and batfish schools, clownfish in anemones and too many types of butterflyfishes to count.
“Wakatobi has a high guide-to-diver ratio, so we never felt crowded or rushed.”
“I requested to see cephalopods, and on the second dive, our guide found one that my buddy and I stayed with for many minutes, just enjoying the connection.”
“Wakatobi has a high guide-to-diver ratio, so we never felt crowded or rushed,” Paul says. “It is a huge plus.” Snorkeling was equally rewarding he says. “Right near the jetty, I found squid, nudibranchs, pygmy seahorses, and octopus.”
The resort experience was equal to the diving, Paul says. “The entire staff was its usual efficient, outgoing, always-helpful self. It was abundantly clear that everyone is glad things are back to normal.”

A “Fairytale” Vacation
“It hasn’t changed a bit.” says guest Richard Holstein, who recently returned to Wakatobi six years after his first visit. “When you go to other dive destinations, you realize just how lucky you were to have visited Wakatobi.
“When you go to other dive destinations, you realize just how lucky you were to have visited Wakatobi. Both on water and on land, the experiences were like living in a fairytale.”
“Despite hurdles such as COVID, Wakatobi has managed to maintain incredible service and appearance,” he reports. “The extremely polite, helpful, and well-mannered staff took care of our every need.”
Another element of Wakatobi that did not go unnoticed by Richard was its pristine, appearance. “The little details really create a lovely atmosphere,” he says. “The beach is a gorgeous view, and the reefs are beyond compare.”
Richard was equally impressed with his dive guide Andrea. “He showed us an exceptional variety of locations and creatures, always going above and beyond to ensure we visited the best sites.” Richard also tapped Andrea’s instructor credentials to complete an advanced open water and a nitrox certification while at the resort. “Both on water and on land,” he says, “the experiences were like living in a fairytale.”
