As international travel restrictions are poised to come to an end, your friends at Wakatobi stand ready to welcome you back. We anticipate reopening sometime mid-year with June / July looking entirely realistic right now.

While we have been waiting for the return of our guests from around the world, our team has stood by us, making many sacrifices, and going the extra mile to maintain the resort and complete some upgrades and improvements. Now, they are preparing for the day they will welcome you back to Wakatobi.

Looking after our people and protecting the reefs have been our number one priority. We have continued to provide meaningful employment and honor the programs that have made local villagers and fishermen proactive partners in marine conservation. As a result, the corals remain in pristine condition, and marine life is thriving. Soon, you’ll be able to visit all your favorite dives sites and discover some new ones!

The team has also used this downtime to spruce things up around the resort and arriving guests will notice that their accommodations and the grounds are in like-new condition. The villas and bungalows have been given a thorough going-through to ensure all is in prime working order. The same goes for our fleet of dive boats, and the liveaboard Pelagian, which has received bow-to-stern attention.

Guests may not even notice the improvements we’ve made to our private runway, which is a good thing as it means landings will be smooth and easy. On arrival at the resort, they will likely notice the improvements to the jetty, as it has been upgraded and widened, making entry and exits to boats even more convenient.

Dive sites have benefited. During our hibernation favorite dive sites have benefited from the respite and display colorful new growth. Our dive team also took the time to revisit some sites that were not shared with guests in years past due to damage in the time before the establishment of the marine preserve. They are delighted to report that these areas have rebounded with impressive vigor and will now join the already stellar roster of sites visited by Wakatobi’s fleet.

For many divers and snorkelers, Wakatobi’s House Reef remains a star attraction. It too displays pristine growth, ready to provide near-endless opportunities for exploration, and the freedom to dive on your own timetable. Our taxi boat team will be there to provide transport to more distant areas of the reef, while shore monitors stand ready to deploy a pick-up boat just in case.
