A place for firsts

Variety is the name of the game at Wakatobi, and that gives new divers a chance to experience a wide range of underwater experiences. Vertical underwater cliffs often butt up to beginner-friendly shallows, creating an easy opportunity to experience the visual thrills of wall diving.

Depending on time and location, divers may experience no current or a lively flow. But moving water is nothing to be afraid of, and with the assistance of our experienced boat crews and dive guides, it doesn’t take long to discover the effortless joys of drift diving. Wakatobi is also an ideal location to experience that first night dive. For added peace of mind, divers can explore a portion of the House Reef during daylight hours to gain familiarity, then retrace their route after dark. And the lights of the Jetty Bar will always guide them back to the pier, perhaps in time for a post-dive libation.

Take care of the academics and pool sessions at home, then complete your open water training at Wakatobi so there's more time to experience all the wonders of our underwater world.

Start at home, finish here

The same qualities that make Wakatobi the ideal location for a first dive trip make it equally attractive to anyone who is considering scuba certification. We have qualified instructors on staff for programs ranging from introductory and youth programs such as BubbleMaker, or for full certification classes. The most popular option is to begin training with a local dive shop, taking care of the academics and any pool session skills work at home, then traveling to Wakatobi to finish the open water portion of the training. With this option, there’s no valuable vacation time spent in a classroom, and more time to experience all the wonders of Wakatobi’s underwater realms.
