Beyond Diving

Legend has it that spirits live on land, so much of Lammangau is built on stilts over the water. Photo by Wakatobi Resort
“One of my favorite excursions was touring the village of Lammangau says journalist Eric Vohr. “You’ll be warmly received by local villagers, and legend has it that harmful spirits live on land, so Lammangau was built on stilts over the water, making it a so-called “Sea Gypsy” village.” Be sure to bring a bit of spending money, he says, because the villagers sell some beautiful hand-made sarongs.”

Permission to relax
Sometimes, the best thing to do is nothing at all. To prepare for those moments when relaxation is the prime directive, guests can indulge in a range of treatments at our on-site spa. After getting rubbed and scrubbed, some may simply wish to retire to a shaded hammock or the verandah of their beachfront Bungalow or waterfront Villa.
“We loved unwinding at the Jetty Bar, and watching the sun go down there is really special,”said guest Joe Bennett. “The whole lagoon comes alive with color and the transition to a sky filled with brilliants stars is mesmerizing. We just don’t want to leave.”
When evening approaches, the place to be is the Jetty Bar, where guests have a front-row seat for a sunset over the water. It’s OK to linger as the light fades, because tomorrow will provide a whole new range of possibilities, both in and out of the water.
