Flights to Wakatobi Resort are quicker and more comfortable than ever

Thanks to our partnership with Indonesia’s top airline carrier, Garuda Indonesia, and a convenient weekly flight schedule, getting to Wakatobi Resort has never been easier. Flights depart in the morning and return mid afternoon each Monday and Friday providing a private air-bridge to our island paradise.

Our partnership with Garuda Indonesia enables Wakatobi Resort to provide guests with a fast, comfortable flight aboard the airline’s newest plane, a 70-seat ATR-72 600. This turboprop aircraft cruises at a speed of 500 kilometers per hour, cutting the flight time between Bali and the resort’s private airstrip to just over two hours. The schedule cuts the stress level so guests can jump into a relaxing holiday immediately, with the opportunity to enjoy lunch, diving, snorkeling, or any other activity the same afternoon you arrive.

Because it is significantly larger than many aircraft used for regional service, the ATR-72 provides passengers with more space and comfortable seating along with an increased baggage capacity. Many guests have remarked favorably on the generous baggage allowances aboard the Wakatobi Resort flight, and photographers in particular value the ability to bring a full complement of equipment.

The direct difference

The direct flight is one of the most significant factors that differentiates Wakatobi Resort from other [remote] destinations, says Wade and Robyn Hughes. The availability of a direct flight also played heavily into Hakan Bohlin’s decision when planning a vacation from his native country of Sweden. “I’m no longer interested in traveling like a back-packer to a destination like Wakatobi,” he says. I have excluded vacations to other places because it was too difficult to go there. Wakatobi Resort makes it easy.”

“It was a relief to know we’d have one short flight straight from Bali to Wakatobi, and that all of our photo and dive gear would be on the plane with us.”

Glen Cowans agrees. From his native Australia, he and his wife Louise fly to many remote destinations. Often the problem is these flights can be the hardest to arrange, book and pay for, he says, and sometimes multiple flights are needed. “We have had flights in other locations that have suddenly been cancelled or rescheduled, resulting in difficult, disruptive and often expensive changes, which have to be made on the go and always under a lot of stress. It was a relief to know we would have just one short flight straight from Bali to Wakatobi, and that all of our photo and dive gear would be on the plane with us,” says Glenn. According to two-time guest Kathy Beech, who hails from Worcester, UK, “The ease and speed of getting to the resort is a superb selling point for this destination, as is the reassurance that your luggage is going to arrive at the same time as you do!”

Prior to boarding the Garuda plane at Bali’s Denpasar International Airport, guests are greeted by a member of our Bali concierge team and escorted to a private lounge. Here they enjoy a complementary breakfast and have a chance to get acquainted with fellow passengers before boarding the flight. “The airport lounge is very nice and much more relaxing than waiting at a boarding gate,” says Pam Osborn.

Service is another high point of the flight. Garuda is one of only four Indonesian airlines approved by the European Union, and a series of ongoing quality-assurance programs has earned the airline numerous awards and accolades, including recognition by the Centre for Asia-Pacific Aviation as Asia’s leading service airline. The international airline review firm Skytrax has awarded Garuda a “Five-star Airline” status and named the carrier as one of the world’s top-ranked airlines. “The flight is easy going and very comfortable” says Robyn. “And being on a plane filled with like-minded passengers, who are all guests of Wakatobi Resort and excited to be heading to a world-class destination, creates a positive atmosphere on board.”

“There is no need to be concerned with your luggage. The Wakatobi Resort staff will be collecting all your bags and delivering them directly to your bungalow or villa. Enjoy your stay!”

Louise Cowans agrees. “The other great thing about the charter flight is that you get a chance to meet the rest of the guests arriving with you before you even get there, and by the time you have landed you’ve made new friends,” she says. As the plane begins its descent towards Wakatobi Resort your Garuda flight attendants announce: “There is no need to be concerned with your luggage. The Wakatobi Resort staff will be collecting it and delivering it directly to your Bungalow or Villa. Enjoy your stay!”
